After much anxiety over leaving all of the kids, I gave in to my HUGE urge for a break and agreed with Ben that it was time for us to get away ALL alone. St Maartan was our destination and My-Oh-My was it beautiful. We left on a Thursday and came back on a Monday night. I truly had forgotten what it was like to relax. It was so nice not having to worry about laundry, bottles, cleaning, cooking (I could go on and on). I did nothing but sleep, read, take long walks on the beach and eat and drink until my heart was content. It was AMAZING!! I missed the kids like crazy but it was sure great to be selfish for a few days. Thanks to my parents, Lynnie, Lori and Anna for helping out with the kids. I know it was hard work what they did but they did it with a smile. My one complaint was that when I came home, Sara and Leah were calling ME "Nana". Yeah- we had to fix that real quick and now they are back to calling me "Mama". :)

The triplets turned 10 months old while we were gone. All three are cruising everywhere and are getting in to everything. Benjamin is still obsessed with baseballs, basketballs or any balls that he can get his hands on. I am thankful that he is enjoying the boy things in a house of all these girls. Leah's new favorite thing is to scream at the top of her lungs. Just as a "little" sister would do, Sara has now begun to copy Leah and screams along with her. Awesome. Poor Benjamin just looks at them and is probably praying that he gets a room of his own sooner rather than later.

Emily is as opinionated as ever but as funny as ever too. Gotta love the age of three. She is looking forward to preschool the beginning of September. She picked out her backpack this weekend and keeps saying that she doesn't need me to take her to school because she is going to ride the bus. I haven't had the heart to tell her that the school bus isn't for a few more years. Anyway, she is looking forward to that three days a week and so is mommy!!!!

I am sure glad that is behind us!

Oh boy what a week this has been! For the last week we have been dealing with a nasty virus with the triplets that included pretty high temperatures accompanied by no other symptoms except for a rash. Most of you think, Roseola but the doctor said it wasn't. Roseola is a virus of several days of high temps followed by a rash once the fever breaks. Yes, that is very similar to what the triplets had but their fever persisted for days after the rash showed its ugly face. They had fevers for 6 days!!! It all started with Leah last Thursday. She woke up with a temp that morning that progressively got higher and higher as the day went on. The meds weren't even keeping it down all that well. I decided at 9pm that I would wake her which normally I would never do. 9:30pm was the earliest that I could give her more meds. I am so glad that I woke her and didn't let her sleep because when we woke her and took her temp, it was 106!!! I freaked!! As Ben called the pediatrician I went ahead and loaded Leah up in the car since I figured she would need to be seen. Sure enough that was the case. Since it was almost 10pm we had to go to the ER so we headed to Scotish Rite. I was terrified the entire drive there. I was worried that the high fever could make her have a seizure (yes I am paranoid) but luckily none of that happened and we made it to the hospital in record time. Once they got her temp down to 103 and ruled out a bladder infection, we were told it was a virus and sent home. Leah's rash broke out while we were in the ER but luckily this rash didn't seem to bother her at all. As the days went on, one by one they each got sick (just the triplets, not Emily).. all the same symptoms. I dealt with this from Thursday until yesterday (Tuesday). I am so glad to say that it is past us. Benjamin and Sara still have the nasty looking rash but Leah's has cleared up nicely. I am hoping in a couple of days the rash will be gone. It looks awful and it covers their whole body. It seems to be worse on their face, arms and legs. I know this is the first of many many illnesses in this house but it is never any fun when your babies don't feel well.

Also in the past week, Benjamin got his very first tooth (6/18/10) just a day after Sara got her first. It was his bottom right (the opposite of the girls). Then he got his second tooth three days later (6/21/10). That poor boy wasn't doing to hot between the virus and cutting teeth, bless his heart. Other firsts for the week: Leah says "Ma Ma" for the first time today (6/23/10) and she pulled up into the standing position on her own (Aunt Lynnie got to witness that first since I was out with Emily). With three the same age it feels like someone is constantly doing something new. It is amazing to watch and I am just so thankful that I am hear to witness it all!!

Glad these last 6 days are past us and am REALLY looking forward to my parents coming home next week. They have been vacationing in Italy and are having so much fun that I am afraid they aren't going to come back!! They better because Emily has been missing them like crazy. When I tell her that they are out of town she asks me where so I tell her Italy and that leads to the usual, "What is Italy", "Why are they there", etc etc. She is so full of questions these days. It is funny and draining all at the same time. I am also enjoying hearing Emily's answers to everything. She is quite the character!! Anyway, hope all of you enjoy the rest of the week and I hope my next blog post won't include any nasty viruses or illnesses. Enough of that!!! Here are some pics!!

9 months ago today...

9 months ago today my little trio was brought into the world. Here is a lengthy video of when Ben comes out and announces their birth and also reveals their names. I have to laugh at Ben. He must have been on such a high after the births because he acts almost intoxicated! :) Also a little funny and slightly embarassing is how he goes on AND on about the size of Sara's mouth in comparison to something of mine. Enjoy.



In other news, little Miss Sara V got her first tooth during the night! It was her bottom left (just as Leah's first was). I think Sara is going to be like her big sister Emily in yet another way where teething doesn't bother her too much.

Phew, it has been awhile

Life with triplets continues to be a whirlwind. It seems each day brings new milestones and funny new quirks. As I say in every update, they are growing so very fast. In just a couple of days they will be 9 months old which is waaay too close to a year old.

Emily is doing great. A typical three year old I believe, with her share of "dramatic" moments. She is sweet, funny and has an incredible memory. She has gotten to go to the pool a little bit this summer and is as brown as can be. One day when we were there she hugged me and said, "Mommy can we stay at the pool forever?". Ha! That is my kind of girl! I also wanted to mention what an incredible big sister she is. She loves each one of them so much and enjoys interacting with them. She helps me out with feeding them their snacks and helps with their sippy cups. When a baby spits up, she immediately runs for a burp cloth. Needless to say, I am very proud of her through this whole transition of our home going from a house of three to a house of six. One of her favorite things to say to me is, "Mommy, I am your heart". Melts me every time. Sure do love that girl!

Benjamin, as I am sure I have mentioned before, is all boy... there is no question about that. He is a big

time mommy's boy too and I love it!! :) He isn't as laid back as his sister Leah but close. He is usually content playing by himself and I have noticed on numerous occasions where he is off playing alone while the girls are at another part of the room. It is funny because you can already tell that he is trying to have some "boy time" by himself. Bless his heart for being in a house with all of us girls!!! He has had two laser treatments for his Port Wine Stain on his face, head and neck and it seems to be working. I have noticed that the treatments are working faster on the side of his head. The cheek and neck are not changing much at all in my opinion but the doctor said to give it time. It could take up to 10 treatments. He doesn't like having it done but luckily it only takes a couple of minutes and the pain stops as soon as he is done lasering. Benjamin still doesn't have any teeth yet but I am guessing they will be here in a few weeks. A month ago, I would have told you I was concerned about how Benjamin didn't sit well. I would sit him up and he would usually just flop backwards, spastic with his movements. He enjoyed rocking on all fours but I figured crawling was far off since he wasn't sitting all that great. Well I guess he figured he needed to step it up because just out of the blue last Monday while Grandad was here on his birthday, Benjamin just started crawling! I couldn't believe it! So for the last week he has been on the go. I would say Benjamin is a pretty vocal child. Maybe the most vocal out of the three. Whenever he is upset and is crying the first thing he says is "Ma Ma" and of course I just eat that up!! Why are mommy's such softies for their little boys???? This is pretty much my baby book for the trio (sad, but true) so I am going to write some milestones and firsts below (seen on another blog I follow):

Leah is as good of a baby as ever and a major Daddy's girl. She has a very laid back personality but is also very physical if that makes any sense. She is crawling and will barrel over anybody or anything in her way. We call her the bully of the trio because she doesn't hesitate to yank a toy out of the others hands or to kick or slap. Maybe she is going to be a soccer player because the girl loves to kick. She kicked like crazy in my belly and she is doing the same now. Leah is not very vocal at all but does like to yell. :) She is the most shy around others and has a very bashful look when talked to. So far she has been the first of the three to do pretty much everything. First tooth, first to sit, crawl and sit up. The only thing she isn't the first for is for talking. Like I said, she isn't too vocal as far as words. If she is making a noise it is usually a yell (a happy yell). She is the thinker of the group and is perfectly content playing by herself although her and Sara seem to stick together often. It is so cool to watch the girls together... I hope they will always be the best of friends.

Last but certainly not least is Sara our little princess. She is a little ball of fire and reminds me so much of Emily in regards to that. She is the happiest when being held (which is impossible for me to do all of the time) and loves to cuddle. She cries and screams when she is mad and won't stop until you go get her and pick her up. She is the hardest and messiest to feed. It is almost like she feels if she stops to eat that she might miss something. She is hilarious though and when she is happy she is HAPPY but watch out if she is upset. That little girl has a temper and I can't help but laugh at her adorable yet pitiful little frown.. bottom lip stuck out and all. Her eyes are as big as her entire body and I have a feeling she will be using those beautiful eyes one day to get her way with us. She is the only one who isn't officially crawling yet she has been army crawling way before Leah even did it. I really think that she might army crawl only and go straight to walking. We shall see!

In other news, Clara (Gloria's mom, Ben's g-mother) came in to town last weekend. It was so good to see her since we hadn't seen her since November 2008! Alot has changed since then and she got to meet her namesake Leah Claire and Ben and Sara for the first time. It was so great visiting with her but as always, the visit was too short! I so wish she lived closer because she is such a hoot and fun to be around!

For all of you that wanted my blog updated.. there is your long and lengthy update. To sum it up, I am in awe of all my four amazing children and still have moments (had one today) where I cannot believe I had triplets. And although I often run around like a chicken with its neck cut off, I wouldn't change it for the world. I am so happy that they will always have each other. I pray that they stay close and always look out for one another. Hope all of you are having a good summer!!

Leah seems to be the first to do everything. The first to sleep through the night. The first to roll both ways and the first to sit up. Another first happened overnight and she (FINALLY) got her first tooth!! It is her bottom left and we are so proud. Emily never had a hard time teething but Leah sure has. Lets pray that when her other ones come in that it will be alot easier on her. Way to go Leah on sitting up in the last week AND your first tooth! Mommy loves you!

Well my first baby turned three on March 30th and I can't believe it. Time has flown by and I keep picturing the second I first saw her face. What an amazing experience!!! Emily has had many changes these last 7 months and I believe she has done pretty well considering. I am so proud of her!! The Sunday before her birthday she had a party with all of her friends at Imaginations at Play. She had a wonderful time and as usual, was sad to go. Aunt Lori and my cousin Anna watched the triplets that day while we were at the party which was wonderful. Emily had all of our attention which she SO deserves these days. On her actual birthday, Daddy took the day off and all 6 of us headed down to the Georgia Aquarium. She had a blast. We all did actually (even the triplets enjoyed it). I think Emily really enjoyed all her birthday festivities. I hope she knows how much she is loved!!! She has grown so much in the last three years. She is a very smart girl and talks our ears off. Seriously, the girl hardly ever stops for a breath! One of the things that she says to me lately is, "Mommy, I am your heart". So so true... That little girl stole my heart the first time I ever set eyes on her.

I know I keep saying this but SERIOUSLY, where has the time gone? How could it be half a year since I gave birth to the triplets? WOW- Time, slow down please.

All is well here at the Medlin household. Emily will be three in just a couple of weeks (OMG!!!) and each day she reminds us at how old she is getting. It is so much fun to hear the silly things that will come out of her mouth. She is still a great big sister and has just recently began to entertain them for me by dancing, singing or just talking to them. The triplets LOVE her to death. They laugh and squeal when their big sister interacts with them. Sara especially loves Emi and I keep seeing them being partners in crime in the future. Their personalities seem very similar to me except for the fact that Emily was and still is a great sleeper. Sara, not so much at all. The babies have gone from sleeping through the night at about 2 1/2 months from not sleeping very well at all. I take that back, Leah is a great sleeper and we don't ever hear a peep from her. The other two, especially Sara likes to wake us up. Luckily the two of them are crying out only for their paci so we just pop that back in and they go back to sleep. I would say we get up for Sara 2-3 times a night and for Benjamin 1-2 times a night. UGH..... Soon we are going to take Leah out and let her sleep in our room while we let Sara and Benjamin "Cry It Out". I have been really bad this time around because whenever they make a noise, I am running in there to try to pacify them. I just don't want them waking everyone else. Besides sleep I think the three of them are doing great. All of them can roll both ways and just this week, Sara has discovered that she can roll to get places so that has been crazy! They aren't showing much interest in sitting which leaves me a little concerned. Emily was sitting at 5 1/2 months but the doctor reminds me that I have got to give them those extra 5 weeks since they were premature and before 37 weeks. I shouldn't compare them with Emily anyway because Emi did EVERYTHING early besides getting teeth. Speaking of teeth, the trio is teething and that has them fussy at times. Not sure how long it will last. Hopefully they will break through soon.

As I mentioned earlier, Emily Laine will be three years old on the 30th of this month. It brings tears to my eyes when I think about her being that old. My mind just keeps flashing back to the second she was born and hearing that first little cry. :( My parents always told me and it is true... Time flies when you are a parent. She is a handful but has handled the transition of life with triplets well. I am excited to be able to get her out more this spring. We started her in soccer and I think she enjoys it. I will have to get a picture of her in her uniform.

I will leave you with some more pictures. Emily refused to wear green today (I promise that I am not going to pinch her) and also refused to pose with the triplets for the picture. It's just one of those days for my almost three year old. Those of you who have children near this age know exactly what I mean.
